Question Tags with Repeated Auxiliary Rule : Repeat the auxiliary/modal verb or lexical verb "be" from the main clause. Examples You’ve worked hard, haven’t you? He didn’t get it, did he? We had talked about it, hadn’t we? I can do it now, can I? Kate is Irish, isn’t she? 2. Question Tags with Added Auxiliary Verb Rule : Use auxiliary "do/does/did" when there is no auxiliary/modal verb in the main clause. Examples He said it’s basically the same, did he? Patsy lives in Lincoln, doesn’t she? They have one every year, do they? (lexical verb "have") 3. Negative Tags Informal Style : Normally contracted (e.g., doesn’t he?, don’t they?) Formal Style : Uncontracted "not" may occur. Examples You changed servants at that time, did you not? So we’re left with three possibilities, are we not?
