Working hard for my family's sake.
For my wife and kids, I sought the best,
Every moment I could spare I'd make.
I attended classes, seeking knowledge,
To find a job that paid much more.
My family complained, they needed my time,
But I said, "It's for you that I do this chore."
Exams passed, a better job came along,
A higher salary than before.
My family's dreams could finally come true,
Yet still, they yearned for something more.
I worked harder, to provide them luxury,
Expensive clothes and vacations abroad.
But my time with them remained so scarce,
My love for them, left too often untold.
Promotion after promotion, I climbed the ladder,
Hired a maid and a home so grand.
I studied more, to achieve even higher,
My family's happiness, always close at hand.
But my work took me away from them,
Sundays spent with clients, not my kin.
They asked for my time, but I could not give,
"My precious gem, it's for you I win."
Finally, success was mine to claim,
A spacious house with a grand view.
I decided to slow down, be with them more,
But fate had other plans to pursue.
On the first Sunday in our new home,
I promised to spend time with my beloved.
But the next morning, I was gone,
Leaving them feeling so bereaved.
Success had come at a very high cost,
The time with my family, forever lost.
I realize now, too late to make amends,
That true riches in life are family and friends.
